A Safe, Simple and Effective Procedure
Circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin (prepuce) covering the glans penis. It is performed for medical, cultural, religious or personal health reasons.
Reduces risk of urinary tract infections, especially in infants.
Prevents phimosis (tight foreskin) and paraphimosis.
Reduces risk of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
Low risk of penile cancer and easier hygiene maintenance.
Foreskin is crushed at 12 o'clock position, a dorsal slit is made, and foreskin is excised. Edges are sutured or clamped.
Foreskin is separated from glans, measured, and cut. The excess foreskin is removed and edges are sutured.
A plastic ring (Plastibell) is placed over the glans, foreskin is tied over the ring, and it falls off naturally in 5-10 days. Common in children.
Patient is positioned supine and properly secured.
The area is cleaned with antiseptic solution.
Dorsal penile block or ring block is administered.
Foreskin is gently separated from glans using a probe or artery forceps.
Foreskin is incised and excised using the appropriate technique.
Control any bleeding points.
Antibiotic ointment and sterile gauze are applied.
Caregiver receives detailed aftercare instructions.
Keep the area clean and dry. Change dressing daily or if soiled.
Apply antiseptic/antibiotic ointment as advised by your doctor.
Take prescribed pain relief (e.g., Paracetamol) as needed.
Avoid tight diapers or clothing that may irritate the area.
